About four mass graves were found in Iraq this past weekend, with about 50 bodies total. Most of the victims were apparently Shiites, both civilians and soldiers. But NPR says (audio file):
Some of these bodies are Sunni Arabs. And there are reports that it was uniformed Shiite security men or killers wearing those type of uniforms, who were responsible for the deaths.
I just heard another update (live radio, no linkage), during which NPR's man in Baghdad said the report is based on the comments of the Sunnis who survived.
Now the story could be bogus. I don't know if NPR actually spoke to the guy. And even if they did, I don't know if the guy was telling the truth. (Maybe in his neighborhood it's better to say you were attacked by nasty Shiites than to say Sunnis had a beef with you). But...if true, it wouldn't be a shocker. And if you're trying to keep score, you'd have to put another one in the ledger for creeping civil war.
