I just did an audio round-table with a few of my fellow Pajama People. It included Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds, Tammy Bruce (of, eh, talk radio fame), myself, and our moderater, Austin Bay.
I'll let people come to their own conclusions about Bruce's clarion call to bomb Iran ASAP. But I just wanted to point out an intriguing comparsion made by Austin. After Tammy offered her subtle "attack! attack! attack!" argument for Iran, I pointed out that a big bad foreign enemy coming over the horizon might just be what Iran's hardliners want. Austin agreed, comparing the current leaders to the Galtieri government. Who's that? The kind folks that brought you the Falklands war in a ultimately fruitless attempt to prop up their own government.
Unlike Austin, I don't support trying to whip up an insurgency in Iran. And I would bet the government there is less unified than he thinks. Still, I agree with him on one point: There are some leaders in Teheran who would be plenty happy to have an foreign aggressor around which the country can unite. Why give it to them?
There's also probably one leader in the West who would probably like to shore up his sagging poll ratings. I would not be surprised if he believes attacking Iran is the way to do it.
Given his general cluelessness (witness the bait he takes from Hugo Chávez every time Chávez waves it) as well as such statements about the insurgency as "bring it on", I feel compelled to worry about this.
By the way, the poedant in me needs to point out that it's "who's" not "whose."

Though I'd like to think that even our president isn't that foolish--there's not exactly a lot of evidence to support that. Which is why, as I wrote last week, that I hope there continue to be reports that the administration is thinking of going after Iran. I think people will react strongly against it:

i'll see you a faulklands and raise you an israel. suppose iran has some spare parts from russia, and some drawings from pakistan? and they've already got a couple of small nukes? wouldn't a bombing or invasion be just the perfect excuse to incinerate tel aviv? maybe the radical mullahs want us to attack their bunkers and silos and underground labs.
i don't know about the rest of the country, but i'd hate to be known as the guys who touched off the second holocaust because we just had to show those mullahs who's the toughest hombre.
