TNR's resident Iraq addict, Spencer Ackerman, picks up a new GAO report concluding that the U.S. military and nascent Iraq government are being about as honest on the numbers of security forces trained as the Politburo was on the level of Rads at Chernobyl. That's not new. What is is that the occupying military ('MNF ' or multinational forces, as the lingo goes) has put itself in a sensory deprivation tank. As the GAO report put it:
MNF-I officials stated that, as of March 2005, MNF-I and the Iraqi government do not have a system in place to assess the readiness of Iraq's various security forces to accomplish their assigned missions and tasks.
Nothin' like honestly contfronting your fears...
